Reporter escorted off ANN7's premises

Johannesburg - African News Network 7 (ANN7) would not answer questions on Monday about a tweet posted by one of its reporters that she was escorted from the company's premises.

"It is not company policy to respond to the media about disciplinary matters related to an employee," ANN7 general manager Quraysh Patel said.

Around 11:00 journalist Asanda Magaqa tweeted: "Being escorted off the work premises by security... Who ever anticipates that? I can only pray I'll receive my salary on Wed...?"

Patel would not comment.

"If the employee is of the view that the company has acted unfairly in effecting the dismissal, the employee has the right to seek recourse in terms of the dispute-settling mechanism provisions as provided for in the Labour Relations Act."

Later Magaqa retweeted a post by a Twitter user "Jesus Saves" that read: "Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways".

The Sunday Times reported this weekend that the Communication Workers Union had handed a list of "worker ill-treatment" complaints to ANN7 management.

Patel was reported as saying that the channel was unaware of the ill-treatment and denied seeing the list of complaints.

ANN7 is primarily owned by Infinity Media. Infinity is co-owned by Oakbay Investments, which belongs to the Gupta family.
