Robber killed during shoot out with cops

Johannesburg - A suspected robber was shot dead after a robbery at a Spar supermarket in Libode, outside Mthatha, on Monday, Eastern Cape police said.

Five men entered the supermarket and demanded money at gunpoint before fleeing, police spokesperson Mzukisi Fatyela said.

"Police were informed and... community members and police gave chase."

In a shoot-out with the alleged robbers, one of them was killed, two were arrested and two escaped.

"We recovered more than R10 000 stolen in the robbery, our firearms and 11 rounds [of ammunition]."

Police were still searching for the two robbers who fled.
