Roodepoort teen held for killing gran with sword

Johannesburg - A Roodepoort teenager has been arrested for murdering his grandmother with a sword at his family’s house.

The 16-year-old boy hid at a friend’s house after the Monday morning murder, according to the Roodepoort Record.

The friend told the community publication that the boy “romanticised murder” and claimed before that he would kill people.

The incident allegedly took place while the boy’s sister and the family’s domestic worker were at home. He is a Hoërskool Florida pupil.

The boy appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, reported Netwerk24.

In 2009, Morne Harmse was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for killing a boy at his school with a sword and injuring three other people, Sapa reported.

Harmse was a pupil at Nic Diederichs Technical High School in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg.
