Johannesburg - One of 16 illegal immigrants who escaped from the Rustenburg police station, and his wife are expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court, North West police said on Sunday.
This followed the re-arrest of the 27-year-old man from Zimbabwe, and his 23-year-old wife, who was also arrested, on Friday at a Kroondal petrol station, said Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.
The man and his wife, who faces charges of defeating the ends of justice and harbouring a fugitive, were expected in court on Monday.
On Wednesday, Ngubane said 16 undocumented immigrants escaped from the police station where they were being held.
The 15 Zimbabweans and one Mozambican escaped between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning after cutting a hole in the roof.
It was not yet known what tool or object they had used to make the hole.
"They were allegedly still waiting for deportation when the incident took place," Ngubane said at the time.
"An internal investigation has been launched and serious steps will be taken if it can be found that there was negligence on the part of police officers."
