SABC urged to remove Motsepe from board

2012-04-13 14:35
Polokwane - The SACP has called on the SABC board to withdraw the membership of Limpopo MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs Clifford Motsepe.

The SA Communist Party said on Thursday night that Motsepe no longer qualified to be a board member because he was a politician.

"The SABC is supposed to be a political body [in which] no politicians should sit. There is one MEC from this province who is sitting on the SABC board and that is illegal, and SABC must remove that member who is also a member of ANC Youth League," said SACP provincial secretary Gilbert Kganyago.

He was addressing members of the Young Communist League during a Chris Hani memorial lecture at the University of Limpopo.

The party's calls follow the announcement that the SABC's head of news and current affairs, Phil Molefe, has been placed on special leave.
