Johannesburg – The head Special Investigative Unit, Vasi Soni, has resigned due to “intensely personal reasons” according to reports.
eNCA reported that Soni, who has held the position for 15 months, handed his resignation to President Jacob Zuma last week Wednesday.
He told eNCA that his wife had undergone major surgery last year and has not been well.
Jacaranda News tweeted that Soni will serve his notice until the end of February.
Soni: It wasn't possible to put in the long hours as the head of SIU and discharge my responsibilities to my wife who is not well #SIU.
