Cape Town - Ses’khona People’s Rights Movement supporters are expected in their numbers when leader Andile Lili appears in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning.
Lili, infamous for his role in the "poo protest" at Cape Town International Airport two years ago, was on Wednesday arrested on a charge of inciting violence after he encouraged Ses’khona supporters to kill criminals "immediately and brutally".
This after sentencing proceedings against him and eight others were postponed. They were previously found guilty of contravening the Civil Aviation Act in February, after dumping human faeces at the airport. The incident occurred two years ago.
Major General Thembisile Patekile, acting Western Cape police commissioner, confirmed that a 40-year-old man was expected in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
He described the incitement charge as a "very serious crime".
"I strongly condemn the alleged statements. It cannot be accepted in a [country] where the right to life and dignity is included in the constitution," he said.
Lili on Tuesday told crowds of supporters he was not satisfied with the country’s justice system.
"Sometimes [criminals] are arrested... but the justice system releases them. So the only thing we can do is to kill immediately if we find a criminal.
"We must kill them, comrades! We are liberating ourselves from criminals. Police are trying, but the justice system is failing us."
Ses’khona spokesperson Sulyman Stellenboom said the movement supported Lili and his stance.
"We will be there to support him when he appears in court," Stellenboom said.
