Security firm bust for using illegal immigrants at Cosafa match

Johannesburg - A North West security company owner has paid a R4 500 admission of guilt fine for employing illegal immigrants as security guards during a Cosafa soccer match, police said on Friday.

The director of White Leopard security paid the fine on Thursday night for contravening the Immigration Act, after three of his employees were arrested at the Royal Bafokeng stadium in Rustenburg, Captain Paul Ramaloko said in a statement.

They were providing security during a match between the Seychelles and Mauritius.

The three Lesotho nationals - a woman and two men - were handed to the Department of Home Affairs. They could not provide any proof of identity when police questioned them.

White Leopard security had been contracted to guard the stadium.

The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) is hosting the 14th edition of its cup in Rustenburg. Fourteen southern African countries are competing for the title.

A man who answered the phone at the company's office in Mogwase said “unfortunately no comment”.
