Mbombela - Sentencing of a chronically ill 71-year-old Mpumalanga pensioner found guilty of raping his 11-year-old granddaughter five years ago could not be carried, due to an outstanding social worker's report.
The accused, from Middelplaas near the Swazi and Mozambican border, appeared in the Boschfontein Regional Court on Wednesday.
"Please come back to this court on May 27 for a social worker's report and sentencing," Magistrate Edgar Moletsane told the convict.
Previously, the victim testified that her grandfather first raped her in 2010 when she went to give him his medication for an undisclosed chronic disease.
She said she was raped again a year later.
The old man previously testified that he was in Pretoria on the date of the first incident and that he was in jail on the second date.
Moletsane postponed the case to May 27 for a social worker's evaluation report and sentencing.
The grandfather, who had his R1 000 bail revoked when he was found guilty last month, was released on warning until his next court appearance.
