Durban - Six people were killed and three were injured when a car and a truck collided on the N11 near Ladysmith in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.
KZN EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie said the accident had forced the closure of the road while emergency service personnel tended to those injured.
“The exact location of the crash is at the Driefontien turn-off about two kilometres from Ladysmith. The road has been closed,” he said.
“Sadly six people have passed away in this crash, two men and four women to be precise. KZN EMS paramedics together with those from a private ambulance service have treated three people who have survived the initial impact of the collision.
“One of these patients is a woman, who is critically injured. While two men, who were occupants of the truck, sustained serious and minor injuries respectively,” McKenzie said.
“The paramedics worked together to treat the injured patients at the scene before the patients were transported to hospital for continued medical care. The cause of the crash, which left the road closed, is being investigated by the police.”
