Johannesburg - A 20-year-old man was arrested in Soweto on Sunday for illegal possession of copper, Gauteng police said.
Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the man and two others were found in Zondi in possession of professionally cut copper cables.
"We arrested the one man and the other two fled," Makhubela said.
He said the copper was likely cut from power cables in Soweto.
The man was expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday.
