Durban - A spear fisherman was rescued from Sodwana Bay, in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, paramedics said.
"The man was apparently spear fishing and diving under the water, reportedly at a depth of about 20 metres, when he got into difficulty," the province's emergency medical services spokesperson Robert Mckenzie.
The man was rescued by his colleagues who brought him to shore. They provided first aid treatment and resuscitated him, he said.
Mckenzie said paramedics arrived on the scene they assessed the man and provided him with medical care before he was airlifted to Ngwelezane hospital.
He said the cause of the accident was not known.
