Speedster 'was late for golf game'

Johannesburg - Ekurhuleni metro police say eight people, including a man going 183km/h, have been arrested for speeding on the R21 freeway in Olifantsfontein near Kempton Park.

Chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said on Sunday: "A [41-year-old] man in a Kia sedan was clocked at 183km/h claiming that he was late for a golf game at Serengeti golf course."

The road has a speed limit of 120km/h.

"The other ... arrested drivers registered speeds of between 174km/h and 163km/h citing reasons from not having realised, late for church or late for a plane at OR Tambo International Airport," said Kgasago.

All eight drivers were charged with reckless or negligent driving and released on bail of between R500 and R1 000.

They were expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court soon.

Good one IOL, you couldn't find a local speed trap picture so you use what looks like a European one. Cars driving on the right hand side of the road. Sloppy, very sloppy. Wake up.

What about all these mp's that do 200 km when they late for meetings. What good for the officials is good for the tax payers.
