State concludes case in cop's graft trial

Cape Town - The State concluded its case on Thursday against a Cape Town police constable charged with corruption and drug trafficking.

Ricardo Samuel Abrahams, formerly based at the Grassy Park police station, is on trial in the Bellville Specialised Commercial Crime Court before Magistrate Sabrina Sonnenberg.

Prosecutor Simon Leope led the forensic testimony of police crime intelligence unit colonel, Stephen Williams.

Leope told the court Williams was the final State witness.

When the case continues on 29 September, Dieter Oosthuizen, for Abrahams, is expected to cross-examine Williams.

Leope said the State would hand to the court documentary evidence when the case resumed, and he would then close the State's case.

Williams told the court he had twice been given transparent, sealed, forensic bags containing video footage taken by a police agent during an undercover police operation.

The operation was aimed at trapping Abrahams as he allegedly obtained quantities of the drug tik for the agent, posing as a peddler.

Williams told the court he downloaded the footage onto discs.

The court viewed the footage in question, during proceedings this week.
