Steel falls on N3, causes delays

Johannesburg - Steel wire cones fell on the N3 highway near Roodekop causing massive delays, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Friday.

The load fell on the left and right lanes, said Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng.

He said the driver of a heavy motor vehicle with two trailers was trying to avoid an accident when he applied the emergency brakes.

He said the rear trailer twisted and lost its load.

Traffic was backed up, he said.

"Currently the N3 is under lot of pressure, especially for motorists travelling towards Johannesburg from Spruitview, Leondale, Vosloorus, Heidelberg and Durban," said Mokheseng.

"Motorists are advised to use alternative routes or to exercise patience."
