Study camps for Kuruman matrics

Kimberley - Matric pupils who were affected by ongoing protests over the state of roads in the Kuruman area of the Northern Cape have joined a study camp in preparation for the supplementary exams.

Eyewitness News reported on Monday that a study camp set up to help nearly 500 matric pupils prepare for their exams had been well attended.

The pupils will not be able to write their matric exams next month, but will write supplementary exams early next year.

According to Sapa, Kuruman schools reopened last Monday, after months of protests over roads in the area. A group named the Road Forum started the protests in June, demanding that a 130km stretch of road be tarred. This led to a number of schools being closed down.

The protest cost about 16 000 pupils a year of learning after a decision was made that they will repeat their classes in 2015, City Press reported.
