Pat Legwabe on Tuesday laid a charge of assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm against Mbuli, presenter of the SABC2 programme Morning Live, at the Johannesburg Central police station.
Legwabe's leg was injured. He allegedly went straight from the doctor, with his leg bandaged, to the police station.
The case has already been transferred to the Mondeor police station, since the incident took place in that area.
Xoli Mbele, spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central police station, said the alleged assault took place at about 23:00 at the house of Legwabe's friend in Winchester Hills.
Legwabe had supposedly gone to her home to look for her when he found Mbuli there.
Buttoning up shirt
The Daily Sun reported on Wednesday that Legwabe came upon his friend in her underwear and a nightie, while Mbuli was buttoning up his shirt.
He confronted Mbuli, upon which Mbuli threw a vase at him.
Mbuli admitted on Wednesday that he'd been at the woman's house for "personal reasons", but denies assaulting Legwabe.
He says he doesn't know how Legwabe was injured, and said Legwabe was the aggressive one.
"He was very aggressive and grabbed me by the shirt and said 'I'm going to fucking kill you'."
"I wrestled with him to get myself out of his grip. And then I left," says Mbuli.
According to him, Legwabe is the one who was throwing things around.
Mbuli said he will meet with the investigating officer on Thursday to discuss the charge.
Police spokesperson Lorraine van Emmerik said on Wednesday that they are still in the process of gathering information.
Legwabe would not speak to Beeld by telephone on Wednesday.
