Telesure extortion case postponed

Johannesburg - The case against two men who allegedly tried to extort $1m from investment holding company Telesure was heard briefly in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday.

It was postponed to August 4 for further investigation.

The two accused, Ghanaian businesmann Henry Kofi Panti, 49, and self-employed computer system analyst, Dalton Lentswe Mononyane, 38, were out on bail of R20 000 and R5 000 respectively.

They allegedly gained access to Telesure's payroll system, stole its employees' personal information, and then demanded $1m to return it.

During their bail application, the two men indicated they intended to plead not guilty to the charges of attempted extortion and fraud.

They maintained they had never met prior to being arrested several weeks ago.

The company owns insurance brands including Auto & General, Budget, DialDirect and First for Women.
