Johannesburg - Those who wanted to have the ANC run by the courts must be stopped, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Friday.
Taking a swipe at a group of disgruntled ANC Youth League (ANCYL) North West members, he said those who rushed to court "clearly love themselves more than they love the ANC".
The North West group lodged an urgent application in the High Court in Pretoria on Thursday to stop the congress from going ahead.
"Court challenges have become a new tendency in our organisation. There is a danger of having the ANC run by the court," he told delegates at the ANCYL's national congress in Midrand, Johannesburg.
The group alleged the national task team had not attended to their disputes about branches.
The court dismissed the application and ruled the matter was not urgent.
Rebuilding
He said the ANC was against its members taking the organisation to court to sort out internal issues.
"Whenever we see signs of ill-discipline in our structures we must act."
Ramaphosa applauded the ANCYL for holding its congress, as it faced internal and external obstacles along the way.
The ANC disbanded the ANCYL leadership structures in 2013.
"We applaud the youth league for taking this challenging task of rebuilding, revitalizing and reuniting the ANCYL," he said.
