Cape Town - The murder of a young man at a popular petrol station in central Cape Town at the weekend may have started as an argument over music festival tickets, reports said on Monday.
Toufiq Joseph, 23, was shot dead at the busy Engen garage on Orange Street on Saturday afternoon.
A 48-year-old man was arrested for the shooting which left customers cowering in fear and shock.
According to reports in Die Burger and the Cape Times, the shooting may have been the result of an argument over tickets for an international music festival.
Joseph was selling tickets to the festival while the man suspected of shooting him was said to be connected to the production of the event, reported the Cape Times.
A woman who was inside the Woolworths Food just metres away from the incident told News24 on Saturday she heard three shots although reports say only one shot was fired.
Bystanders were shocked to witness the calm manner of the burly, tattooed suspected shooter who was said to have simply stood on the scene smoking a cigarette and drinking a Coca-Cola as he waited for police to arrive.
Joseph’s family spoke to reporters of their anguish at having lost their brother and son.
“That is my son, that is my son...” Sharyfa Joseph told Die Burger.
