Toddler revived by paramedics after pool accident

Johannesburg - A toddler who showed no signs of life after a swimming pool accident was revived by paramedics on Tuesday night.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the 18-month-old boy had no vital signs when paramedics arrived at a home in Jacaranda Street in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.

"Paramedics arrived on scene [and] they found the patient being resuscitated by CPF [community police forum] and family members. ER24 paramedics immediately took over from the bystanders, continuing CPR and providing the patient with advanced life support intervention," he said.

"After ten minutes of CPR, the patients vital signs returned. He was immediately stabilised and transported to Mid Med Hospital for urgent medical attention."

Meiring could not immediately confirm how long the toddler was underwater for, or how long the family and CPF members tried to resuscitate him before the paramedics arrived.

It was also unknown how the incident occurred.
