Cape Town - ANC NEC member Tony Yengeni is expected back in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, for the continuation of his drunken driving case.
At his last appearance, his lawyer Sylvester Vogel said he had made further representations in terms of a plea agreement.
Vogel told the court they had written to the director of public prosecutions in terms of section 105A of the Criminal Procedure Act, which allows an accused to enter into a plea agreement with a prosecutor, who has been authorised to do so by the national director of public prosecutions.
Yengeni was arrested in August 2013, after he was stopped for allegedly driving his Maserati erratically in central Cape Town.
He apparently had a blood-alcohol level of 0.25%, five times the legal limit of 0.05%.
He is out on R500 bail.
