Two arrested with 324kg dagga in bakkie

Johannesburg - Eastern Cape police spokesperson Mali Govender said two men found in possession of dagga were arrested in Grahamstown on Sunday.

Govender said the pair were travelling in a bakkie which had orange maintenance lights on it. Police patrolling the highway noticed a large tank at the back of the bakkie.

"They followed the vehicle, which was travelling from the direction of King Williams Town towards Port Elizabeth. The vehicle turned off the N2 into Grahamstown when the officers stopped them," said Govender.

The police searched the vehicle and found that the tank contained bags of dagga.

"The dagga weighs 324kg with a street value of approximately R324 000," said Govender.

They were expected to appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court soon.
