Two dead after lovers' quarrel

Durban - A lovers' quarrel saw a man killing his partner before turning the gun on himself in Empangeni on Monday morning.

This was the second incident reported in KwaZulu-Natal since the weekend where a woman was allegedly killed at the hands of a loved one.

In the most recent incident, several shots rang out from a Louis Botha Avenue home in Empangeni , prompting a resident living in an adjacent room in the commune to investigate.

It is understood a heated argument had preceded the gunfire.

Police spokesperson Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose confirmed that detectives and police forensic experts had been dispatched to the scene of the shooting.

“The next door neighbour had heard the two having a very heated argument in the room. There are several other people that stay in the house and after the shooting stopped, this person went to see what had happened and found the bodies. They then called the police,” Mdlalose added.

A murder docket and an inquest investigation have been registered.

On Sunday, a woman was killed after her husband allegedly threw two military grade hand grenades at her during an argument. One of the hand grenades exploded.

Police have subsequently identified her as 33-year-old Letshego Nteke Mohoasa.

Investigators have now thrown out a wide net for her husband, 30, who has been on the run since the incident in their Karridene Road home in Durban.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the suspect was known to police, who were trying to track him down.
