Virgin Active dumps Tim Osrin

Cape Town - Local health club Virgin Active has announced that it has terminated its contract with well-known athlete and coach Tim Osrin.

Osrin was arrested on Wednesday after a domestic worker was assaulted in Cape Town. He was traced to his home after witnesses took down his car registration number.

Domestic worker Cynthia Joni is 44 and was on her way to work from Khayelitsha when the incident took place.

Osrin had been contracted to Virgin Active as a swimming coach, but on Tuesday, the group announced on Twitter that it had terminated its contract with him.

The tweet was shared 115 times as of Tuesday morning, and though Osrin apparently said nothing during the alleged attack, social media users have linked the incident to racism.

Osrin is scheduled to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on 27 November.
