Watch – Zuma rides N-word in parliament

@MthunziMbatha

Welcome to the era of soundbite politics – where you are as relevant as your last gimmick.

President Jacob Zuma yesterday set tongues wagging when he joked about the opposition’s “obsession with Nkandla”. The R246 million security upgrades to his private residence in Nkandla have always been the elephant in the room in Parliament and a thorn in Zuma’s side.

However, yesterday Zuma spewed the N-word as much as a sailor uses the F-word and other choice profanities. The president rode high on his 15 minutes of Nkandla fame, and certainly scored full marks on gimmicks. The onus is now on the opposition to respond with an equally gripping manoeuvre.
