Woman held at knife-point in Joburg gardens

Johannesburg - Five people were arrested for robbing a woman while she was walking her dogs at the Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia, Johannesburg, on Tuesday, police said.

"Police arrested five suspects aged between 23 and 33 in connection with the robbery of a 26-year-old female at the Botanical Gardens after she was threatened with knives and robbed of valuables," said police spokesperson Lloyd Ramovha.

Police were called by security guards and found the woman's cellphone and other items in the robbers' possession.

They were found carrying knives.

"We appeal to victims of recent muggings at the Botanical Gardens to come forward urgently, for the purpose of an identity parade to enable us to link the suspects with previous cases," said Ramovha.

The group would appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate's Court soon on charges of armed robbery and possession of dangerous weapons.
