Durban - The ANC will do everything in its power to ensure the constitutional rights of all workers are respected, ANC treasurer general Zweli Mkhize said on Sunday.
Workers, particularly those on farms, had always been subjected to various forms of abuse, he told African National Congress Members during a forum on the Freedom Charter in Ixopo, according to a copy of his speech.
The ANC said the forum was intended to remind people of the significance of the Freedom Charter. The party declared 2015 the year of the Freedom Charter.
Mkhize told the gathering that councillors and all ANC members should make improving the lives of South Africans a priority.
He said unity in the organisation was paramount, and one of the strongest pillars of the movement. Mkhize urged members to respect the party and reminded them that its leaders had fought tirelessly to get the organisation to where it was at present.
“Therefore it is very important for everyone in the organisation to work for the people, and at the same time make sure that the ANC grows even stronger than it is,” he said.
