Zuma in Ethiopia for AU summit

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Wednesday evening ahead of the 24th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly, the presidency said.

"The summit will consider the adoption of Agenda 2063, a 50-year shared strategic framework for inclusive growth and sustainable development on the African continent," spokesperson Mac Maharaj said in a statement.

"South Africa has ensured that the National Development Plan includes the key proposals of Agenda 2063, with a strong focus on regional co-operation and integration."

On Thursday Zuma, in his capacity as chairperson of the Presidential Infrastructure Championing Initiative, would brief the 32nd Summit of the New Partnership for Africa's Development heads of state and government orientation committee.

He would brief them about progress made in infrastructure development in Africa.

Later Zuma would attend the African Peer Review Mechanism Summit and a meeting of the AU Peace and Security Council.

The summit would also see the AU headquarters inaugurate the Nelson Mandela Plenary Hall, named in honour of the former president last year.

Zuma was accompanied by International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Ministers in the Presidency Jeff Radebe and Susan Shabangu, and Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.

Also accompanying Zuma were Public Service Minister Collins Chabane and his deputy Ayanda Dlodlo, as well as State Security Minister David Mahlobo.
