Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma has sent his condolences to the families of seven children who were killed in an accident in Pietermaritzburg this week.
"We are always deeply saddened at the loss of lives and are more saddened if it is young lives that have been lost in this manner. The pain felt by the families is immeasurable," Zuma said in a statement.
"We assure the families that our law enforcement agencies will get to the bottom of this incident."
On Wednesday, seven children were killed when a bakkie overturned, veered off the road and apparently crashed into a house. More than 12 others sustained serious and critical injuries.
"On behalf of government and the people of South Africa, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery to all those who were injured," said Zuma.
"May the souls of the departed children rest in peace."
