A real cliffhanger: Giraffe scare drives man over the edge

Bloemfontein - A giraffe gave a Bloemfontein man such a fright that he drove his BMW over the edge of Naval Hill.

The driver of the fiery red BMW parked at a viewing spot on Naval Hill on Tuesday evening when a giraffe suddenly appeared. It caught the man by surprise and in his haste to get away from the animal he went forward instead of reversing, Netwerk24 reported.

His car went over the edge and landed on a cliff. He managed to jump out before the car went over.

He called a towing service on Wednesday to get his car off the cliff.

Keith Burger, a manager of Dup’s Towing, said it took them about an hour’s sweat and toil to get the car to safety.

The driver didn’t want to comment.
