Pietermaritzburg - A cash van driver pointed out one of the men who attacked him, during the trial of three alleged robbers in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Tuesday.
Mondli Mkhize, the driver of a cash van carrying pension money, said Lindokuhle Duma, 39, was one of the alleged robbers. Mkhize suffered a gash to the forehead and bruises after the robbers punched and kicked him in June 2013.
Duma and his two co-accused - Njabulo Nxumalo, 31, and Mandla Bhengu 41 - all from Durban, were allegedly part of a gang which allegedly perpetrated the robbery in Hammarsdale.
All three pleaded not guilty to the theft of a bakkie used in the attack, aggravated robbery of pension money, six counts of attempted murder, and possession of prohibited weapons and ammunition.
The gang had weapons including two AK-47 assault rifles, an Uzi submachine gun, a shotgun, and a handgun, according to the indictment.
The trial is expected to last about three weeks and more than 20 witnesses could testify for the State.
