Durban - A special provincial funeral for anti-apartheid activist and former ANC MP Mewallal Ramgobin was a fitting tribute, the office of the premier in KwaZulu-Natal has said.
This after Zuma on Friday approved a request by the province for Ramgobin's funeral to be declared a Provincial Special Funeral.
"This is a fitting tribute to the man whose contribution towards the liberation of this country will be written by many authors and writers for many years to come," the premier’s office said in a statement.
The flag will be at half-mast on Monday as a sign of mourning, the office said.
Ramgobin will be buried on Sunday at the Mountview Civic Centre in Verulam.
"As we bid farewell to Mewa, we are happy and proud that today KwaZulu-Natal is home to citizens of different racial and cultural backgrounds who make up the rich and diverse tapestry of cultural heritage that characterises this beautiful province. This should be attributed to his immense contribution."
