Cape Town - A group of about eight men allegedly threatened residents and broke facilities at the Ahmed Kathrada House in Green Point on Wednesday night.
The group, wearing balaclavas was apparently armed with pangas, knives and guns, Reclaim the City supporter Nkosikhona Swaartbooi said in a statement.
"The attackers stormed the building, pushed past security, and found their way to a communal room where residents were having an evening meeting," Swaartbooi said.
The motive for the incident is unknown.
"They broke windows, ransacked rooms and pulled out their weapons, shouting: 'Leave this building, you cannot stay here. This building doesn't belong to you!'"
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the incident.
Van Wyk said residents were attending a meeting when the men with balaclavas and a firearm approached and threatened them.
He said the pointing of a firearm was registered for investigation.
A pellet gun was also handed in. No arrests have yet been made.
