Cape Town – A tip-off led to police officers uncovering a stash of firearms, grenades and ammunition in Bishop Lavis, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.
Officers made the discovery in an open field in Montana on Monday where they found a ceiling structure, lifted it and started digging in the sand, said Captain FC van Wyk.
They eventually dug out a bag containing a small grenade, smoke grenade and various firearms. These were a 9mm, an R5 and an AK47.
They also found R1 magazines and ammunition for these firearms.
Van Wyk said an inquiry was registered for investigation.
The police thanked the public for their assistance in helping to fight crime.
