Durban – The Kloof and Highway Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is urging pet owners to collect their missing pets following Thursday's Diwali celebrations.
"We are appealing to any person that is missing a pet to go to their nearest SPCA and follow the necessary steps to ensure you are quickly reunited," said the SPCA's Brigette Ferguson.
Ferguson said the SPCA had taken in 12 dogs and two cats between 18:00 and 22:00 on Thursday night for safe keeping.
"Three dogs were claimed by their grateful owners," she said.
Inspector Eric Simamane had brought in an injured stray dog that was quickly treated by veterinarian nurse Lauren Paxton and was expected to make a full recovery soon, said Ferguson.
She thanked members of the public, neighbourhood patrols and all those who assisted animals in distress.
Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights. During the celebrations, fireworks are often set off.
