Cop linked to Parys farm murders suspended

Johannesburg – The police officer, who was implicated in the murder of two suspected farm attackers, has been suspended, police said on Friday.

"He has been served with his suspension letter," said Brigadier Billy Jones.

It was not immediately clear how Captain Hendrick Prinsloo was involved in the matter, but earlier on Friday he appeared in the Parys Magistrate's Court with four other people implicated in the murders.

Their case was postponed to April 15 to allow further investigations.

All five were out on bail.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the magistrate granted the lengthy postponement to ensure that investigations were concluded when the matter returned to court.

"We are confident that we will have the investigations completed by then," he said.

The other four accused are Free State farmers Anton Loggerenberg, Boeta van der Westhuizen, as well as father and son Johan Cilliers senior and junior.

A farmer from the farm Biesiesbult, near Parys, alleged that, while he was feeding his dogs last month, two armed men confronted him and demanded R20 000.

The farmer was pistol-whipped, but managed to run into his house and press a panic button. His attackers ran away.

A group of neighbouring farmers rallied together, tracked and confronted two men – Samuel Tjexa, 35, and Seun Tangasha, in his late 20s – about 8km from Biesiesbult.

The farmers allegedly assaulted Tjexa and Tangasha before handing them over to police.

Tjexa was admitted to Parys Provincial Hospital and Tangasha to Pelonomi Hospital.

Tangasha was declared dead on arrival and Tjexa died later.
