Cops probe PMB mall jewel heist

Pietermaritzburg – Five armed men robbed a Pietermaritzburg jeweller on Tuesday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

A staff member was opening the jewellery shop in the Liberty Midlands Mall when the gang confronted her, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said.

They took jewellery and an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing.

No shots were fired.

Police opened a case of armed robbery.

The Witness reported that operations at the mall resumed shortly after the robbery.

A white Audi used as a getaway vehicle was recovered at the undercover parking at the nearby Cascades Shopping Centre later on Tuesday morning, the Witness reported.

The suspects are still at large.
