Cape Town - A tip-off led to the discovery of R3.8m worth of dagga in a hidden compartment of a truck headed towards Cape Town, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.
A 57-year-old man would appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday in connection with the 774kg bust, spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said in a statement.
Police received information on Monday about a transport company's truck on the N1 which was allegedly transporting a large amount of dagga. Officers pulled it over on the Huguenot Bridge, near the toll gate exit, at 13:45.
"A search of the truck revealed a hidden compartment in its chassis made of wood and fitted onto the undercarriage. The compartment was searched, as well as the cargo hold of the truck, and 25 large bags containing dagga were found."
The man was arrested and charged with drug dealing.
