Durban man arrested for kidnapping 11-year-old son

Durban – A Durban man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping his 11-year-old son and holding him hostage for eight days, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Sunday.

The 39-year-old was arrested in Umlazi's V Section on Saturday following tip-offs as to his whereabouts, said Major Shooz Magudulela.

The man allegedly went to Bomvini in Ngwelezane last week Friday looking for his former girlfriend. He forced his way into her house carrying a container of petrol, but found she was not there.

The man then demanded to take his son, who was with his aunt at the time.

He allegedly threatened to burn down the house if she did not allow him to do so.

He fled the scene with the boy at around 20:30.

The child was reunited with his mother.

He was not harmed.

The man was expected to appear in the Empangeni Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
