Durban - Two workers are in a serious but stable condition after a trench collapsed at a construction site in Durban on Monday afternoon, paramedics said.
The men had been excavating a trench for the placement of cables when the sides gave way, burying them alive, said Marshall Security spokesperson Kyle van Reenen.
The site was on Umhlanga Rocks Drive near the Ilala Ridge area.
Netcare 911's Chris Botha said the structural collapse took place at an Umhlanga housing complex.
Various officials worked together to free the men, in their 30s, from the soil and rubble.
They were taken to hospital for treatment.
