East Coast Radio producer sacked

Durban – Popular KwaZulu-Natal station East Coast Radio has sacked its producer and columnist Kevin Minter-Brown.

The veteran Durban radio producer found himself in hot water over an "insensitive" Facebook post commenting on the death of two cyclists at the weekend.

In a statement ECR said: “In light of the insensitive and offensive comments made by contractor, Kevin Minter-Brown, on his personal Facebook page following the tragic deaths of two cyclists on the M4 Ruth First Highway on February 7 2016, East Coast Radio has taken the decision to terminate Minter-Brown’s contract with immediate effect.

“This is a difficult time for the family and friends of cyclists, Jared Dwyer and Richard da Silva, and East Coast Radio would like to humbly apologise for Minter-Brown’s callous remarks.”

The East Coast Radio jock and Sunday Tribune columnist posted a comment in jest on Monday, suggesting that a running club be started on the N3, after it emerged that cycling on the M4, the scene of the weekend tragedy, was in fact illegal.

Da Silva and Dwyer were hit by an allegedly drunk driver while on a training ride on Sunday morning.

"I'm thinking of starting a running club… I know there's plenty of other roads, but I think if there is an opportunity to put us directly in harms way, then why not?[sic]" Minter-Brown said.

He removed the post shortly afterwards and apologised.
