Johannesburg - Eight speedsters were nabbed over the weekend on the R556 between Kliprivier and the Vaal, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Sunday.
The motorists were arrested on Friday on the road which has an 80 km/h speed limit, said spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago.
One motorist in a Toyota Quantum was caught driving at 126km/h, the statement said.
"[He was] claiming that he was late to pick up staff," said Kgasago.
"The second highest speed recorded was 115km/h by a 47-year-old male in a Ford Ranger LDV, who said he had no reason for committing the offence."
The other offenders clocked speeds of between 113km/h and 114km/h.
All of them were released on bail of R1 000 each and were expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court.
Two other speedsters were each fined R700 while another was fined R500 for driving without a licence.
