Explosive parcel came to the house as a 'flower delivery' - cook

Durban – A cook who says he works at the Durban home where a parcel exploded on Friday afternoon says when he rushed to the scene in the main section of the house, he was confronted with smoke and blood.

Speaking to News24 outside the upmarket home on Stephen Dlamini Road, Yaseen Allie said he was in a separate part of the house performing his cooking duties when the explosion went off.

He said he believed the parcel to be a "flower delivery", which arrived at the house shortly after noon. Allie said when the parcel arrived, it was carried past him on the way to the main house. The box had flower delivery logos on it, he said.

Allie said he continued with his work and moments later heard a loud explosion.

“I heard screaming and there was smoke everywhere. I found them in a very bad condition. The boy's finger was out and his head was badly damaged. The lady's legs were badly hurt," he said.

The three family members were taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, police bomb experts discharged a second device in a controlled environment on Friday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said police were still investigating the motive for the attack.
