Foreign national allegedly kept pupil as sex slave

Pretoria - A 37-year-old foreign national was arrested after he allegedly kept a primary school pupil as a sex slave in a Pretoria flat for over two months, police said on Friday.

The 12-year-old Grade seven girl went missing after leaving her Mamelodi home to go and meet a friend at a park near Silverton in September, according to a police statement on the SAPS Facebook page.

Instead, she came across an unknown girl, who subsequently led her to a flat in Sunnyside. The two of them spent the night at the flat.

When she woke up the next morning, an unknown man was sitting on the bed. Her new friend was nowhere to be found. The man allegedly repeatedly raped her and tried to turn her into a prostitute.

She was rescued after passers-by saw her try to escape from the flat on Thursday.

The man would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of kidnapping and rape.
