Gauteng golden oldies to hit the sportsfield

Johannesburg – More than 100 elderly Gauteng residents are set to participate in the national sporting Golden Games to be held in Limpopo this year, the provincial government said on Sunday.

"You epitomise resilience, tenacity and a never-die spirit of winners, Gauteng Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza said in a statement.

She added that the 106 elderly participants were the most inspiring sports people that South Africa had.

The Golden Games, which have been held annually since 2011, will take place next week. Participants are all over the age of 60.

"This team, engraves the names of each athlete in bold as heroes and heroines," Mayathula-Khoza said.
