Johannesburg – Gauteng police are following several leads in their bid to arrest more suspects involved in a truck hijacking on the N1 in Johannesburg on Thursday.
Two people, aged 35 and 42, were arrested earlier, Gauteng police said in a statement.
Two trucks loaded with cellphones were hijacked on the N1 next to the Buccleuch interchange on Thursday morning.
Officers followed a tracking signal to a cemetery at the Marlboro off-ramp in Alexandra, where a shootout occurred, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) said.
A 28-year-old JMPD officer was shot in the upper body and taken to Milpark Hospital. He was wearing a bulletproof vest.
Emer-G-Med spokesperson Max Cohen said the driver of one of the trucks and a security guard escorting the trucks were shot. Both were in a critical condition.
