Cape Town - The Hawks are investigating an armed robbery in which a gang hit the Liberty Promenade shopping centre in Mitchells Plain, the unit confirmed on Monday.
Provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Lloyd Ramovha said a cash-in-transit heist took place at the mall on Sunday morning.
"According to information available at this stage it appears that approximately six armed suspects using about three vehicles - two of which are believed to be a white Toyota Verso CA 222129 and a grey VW Golf GTI 6 CY 43390 - accosted and pointed [firearms at] the guards..." he said.
The guards were disarmed and the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Despite claims of people being shot during the robbery, Ramovha said no injuries were reported.
No arrests have yet been made.
