Pretoria - The Hawks are investigating the theft of a large amount of money from the State Security Agency's offices in Pretoria East on December 26.
''I can confirm that an undisclosed amount of money was stolen,'' said Brian Dube after the Sunday Times reported that thieves made off with R50 million in foreign currency from the offices of the agency, whose job it is to monitor domestic and foreign threats.
''An investigation is under way by the Hawks to ensure that whoever is responsible will be brought to book. It is very concerning,'' he said.
Neither he nor Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi would reveal the amount taken.
Mulaudzi said the theft was discovered on December 26, and was thought to have happened between Christmas night and Boxing Day.
Nobody has been arrested yet.
