Cape Town - The Health Professions Council South Africa on Friday issued an apology after admitting to jumping the gun on the verdict over Professor Tim Noakes.
"The previous statement is retracted and we apologise for incorrectly stating that Prof Tim Noakes was found guilty by the Professional Conduct Committee," said the statement.
Early on Friday afternoon, the council sent out a media statement announcing that Noakes had been found guilty of unprofessional conduct.
"It's not true," Noakes's irate lawyer Adam Pike said. "It is impossible for them to make a finding," he said.
Closing arguments will be heard and a verdict will be made in April 2017.
The complaint relates to Noakes providing advice on breastfeeding babies to a mother on social media.
